Hi, this is Girasol “Sunflower”. She is about a year and 3 months old. She is a very active border collie who needs a lot of attention and patience, as she is reactive. When she was about 3 months old, an older dog charged towards her, causing her to be very wary and fearful of other dogs. She is also very protective and does not like new people as much, as it causes her anxiety. I have worked with trainers in the past to help with her feelings of anxiety around other dogs and people. She definitely needs to have a solid routine with someone who can be consistent with her in regards to her needs and future training in becoming social with others.
I, unfortunately, am not able to provide her the life that she needs as I had originally hoped for, as I am moving out of Humboldt County. However, I believe that with enough time, patience, energy, and love when working with her, she will be able to tolerate being in large spaces with other people and dogs, as long as they are not running towards her.
In the home, Girasol is loving, affectionate, and silly all around. She has a lot of sass and is vocal about her needs as well. While she enjoys her fair share of cuddling and snuggles, she will also not hesitate to tell you when she needs to go outside to use the bathroom (she is trained to ring bells). Her favorite game is fetch, although she is quite the ball hogger. She loves to give hugs on command, kisses, and will ask for belly rubs. Girasol knows how to sit, lay down, and to wait, especially when it comes to her feeding time. She often plays with her treats before indulging in them and likes to eat ice occasionally too. One thing about Girasol is that she can be a bit mouthy, which is something she would need extra training on in order to unlearn this behavior since she does not know when it can be too much. She will never cause you any harm on purpose, and knows when she is sorry for causing any disruption. Overall, she is a very loving puppy who needs a loving and supportive home, especially as she adjusts to a new environment.
