ADOPTED – SAGE

Female, 2 year, 35 lbs

SAGE

If you’re looking to find a very smart dog to go on adventures with or participate in some dog sports then SAGE just might be the dog for you!

This sweet BC mix is 2.5 years old. She has a short easy care coat and long legs that can outrun just about anything. She is a lean healthy 35 lbs. SAGE is a very active girl and although she is energetic when outdoors she is her foster mom’s shadow and is very content to relax with her when inside.

SAGE gets along with other friendly dogs and has shown no interest in dog savvy cats. She is very friendly at heart but will bark at strangers. However if allowed to meet them on HER terms, she quickly warms up and gives them a wag and a wiggle. She likes to play rough with her foster pack. If she were to go to a home with other dogs they would need to be ok with her style of play. SAGE would also be happy to be an only dog as she loves to be with her special person.

SAGE loves to chase balls or Frisbees and she is learning to retrieve.  She is treat motivated so training is fast and fun. She is one smart gal! She will sometimes bark with excitement when playing otherwise she has not been an excessive barker in her foster home. She will sometimes dig if she is bored so plenty of exercise will help with that. Our experience has shown us that “a tired dog is a happy & content dog.” SAGE is quick to follow commands. She has already learned some basic training. She has a solid sit, lay down, give a paw and wait and stay. She is fully potty trained. Her leash training still needs additional work.

SAGE absolutely loooves car trips…she loads up quickly and rides quietly in a crate or secured in the back seat.  When it’s time for bed she understands “go to bed” and goes willingly into her crate…although she’d prefer to sleep with you, if allowed. SAGE is a cuddle bug and she would be happy with someone who wants to be close with their dog and has the time to give her enough exercise which will help her thrive. SAGE  loooves to run and sometimes gets the “zoomies” outside. Therefore we prefer a place that has a nice big yard that is fully secured.

SAGE will chew the stuffing out of stuffed toys so it’s best not to give those types. She is fine with being left alone for a few hours and settles down quickly to wait for your return. She has not shown to have excessive separation anxiety. Please keep in mind that she is a young energetic dog so plenty of exercise is a must!  Remember…”A TIRED DOG IS A HAPPY AND CALM DOG”!

Being a typical young Border Collie SAGE will do best in an active home with someone who likes to go on adventures. We think she would make a great running or hiking buddy. Her foster mom has also discovered that, with proper training, SAGE might be good and enjoy agility. She is not afraid of the agility equipment at her foster home and was willing to try the obstacles with plenty of enthusiasm.

All in all, SAGE is a super sweet, snuggly, smart girl and is ready to go on her next adventure with her special person. We prefer to place SAGE in a furever home with a retired person or someone who is home most of the time.

SAGE is micro-chipped, spayed, heart worm negative and on preventative, and up to date on vaccinations. If you have an approved Northern California Border Collie Rescue & Adoptions Adoption Application and wish to inquire about SAGE, please email us at Adoptions@norcalbcrescue.org. If you have an approved adoption application with Border Collie Rescue of Northern California let us know and we will request it be forwarded to us for consideration.

SAGE is being fostered in Nevada City in Nevada County, CA.
