ADOPTED – PENELOPE

Female, 9 months, 30 lbs

PENELOPE JULY 2022

PENELOPE is a border collie cross weighing in at 30 pounds.  She is under one-year-old and has been spayed.  Penelope is a beautiful, well-balanced little girl with deep brown inquisitive eyes.  Although she appears black and white in pictures, Penelope’s true color is dark chocolate brown with white accents and mahogany brown freckles on her nose.

PENELOPE is fun, energetic, and very curious.  She loves to explore the yard on her own, and mostly stays close by her humans when outside. Penelope is both agile and athletic.  She will run and turn on a dime, then stop and look at you.  If she hears no command, Penelope will continue to run and play on her own.  On hot days, you will find Penelope lounging in the kiddy pool.

PENELOPE desires a family who will spend time with her and train her to her true potential.  She learned very quickly to walk on leash, and her recall is 95% solid even with distractions.  Penelope’s leash training has progressed to a “hands free” leash.  Her training sessions have been short and several times a day with positive reinforcement and food treat reward.  Currently, Penelope is not overly toy motivated, though she has shown interest in training to the “Flirt Pole.”  Penelope is willing to try new things; however, she is sometimes a bit insecure and cautious.  Penelope could be a wonderful jogging or hiking partner and shows potential to be a “Trail Dog.”  She might also be a splendid agility dog; she is fast, agile, and follows directions well.  And as a dog who likes water, she might also love dock-diving, or simply swimming in a lake or pool.

PENELOPE does well in her crate, and she has not had any accidents in the house.  Penelope sleeps soundly through the night.  When let outside in the morning, Penelope will relieve herself on command with positive reinforcement.  Penelope has not been left to run free unsupervised in the house.  She is content in her crate for down time, to eat, and to sleep.  Currently, Penelope displays some anxiety when riding in a car. With time, patience, practice, and maturity, she should overcome her nervousness.

PENELOPE is very playful with her foster brothers.  She has shown no interest in squirrels or cats.  She has not been exposed to babies, toddlers, or small children.

Penelope is looking for an active family who will include her in ALL their activities, and who will support her in becoming the very best dog she can be.  We think she’s already very special!.

PENELOPE is micro-chipped, spayed, heartworm negative and on preventative, and up-to-date on vaccinations. If you have an approved Northern California Border Collie Rescue & Adoptions Adoption Application (https://ncbcrdev.ituldev.com/adoption/adoption-application/) and wish to inquire about PENELOPE, please email us at Adoptions@norcalbcrescue.org. If you have an approved adoption application with Border Collie Rescue of Northern California let us know and we will request it be forwarded to us for consideration.
