ADOPTED – MICKEY

Male, 1 year, 55 lbs

MICKEY

Let me introduce you to goofy, handsome man MICKEY. MICKEY appears to be a Tri-color Border Collie / Corgi mix with a thick, rough coat and a big smile on his face! Weighing in at about 55 pounds, MICKEY is an approximately one-year-old male that is what we humans affectionately call a “velcro dog”. He will follow his humans around as they do chores or other human things but he will wait patiently until it’s his playtime. Although he loves to be with his humans, he can also be left alone without stress (we leave him crated). What a great balance!

MICKEY is dog social but he sometimes likes to bark at other dogs so he may be best off as the only dog living in the house. He would be a good candidate to enjoy play dates with friends or family. We have not observed MICKEY with cats or other animals so we do not know how he will respond.

MICKEY is confident in and around the home but shows mild uncertainty when he ventures out into novel environments. With some cheerleading from his handler, MICKEY typically determines he is safe and will recover quickly. He will need continued positive, safe exposure to increase his confidence. MICKEY is food motivated so he will be a fun guy to train.

MICKEY is crate trained and will rest peacefully after an initial protest bark. He sleeps through the night without any issue. He does not dig or chew excessively and he has not tried to escape our yard. MICKEY will ride quietly in the car and does not get car sick. MICKEY is working on housetraining but is doing well if he is let outside regularly. He doesn’t have a signal for when he needs to go out. When left in a yard he may get antsy and bark a bit. However, with a simple verbal reminder he will quiet down.

MICKEY has ingrained herding instincts. He likes to nip at the heels of his humans. He is learning to curb this desire but still needs verbal reminders that this is not okay. Therefore, MICKEY would benefit from an experienced herding breed owner that does not have children or other dogs. He would love to snuggle and play toys with his humans all by himself. MICKEY sure is a diamond in the rough!

MICKEY is micro-chipped, spayed, heart worm negative and on preventative, and up to date on vaccinations. If you have an approved Northern California Border Collie Rescue & Adoptions Adoption Application and wish to inquire about MICKEY, please email us at Adoptions@norcalbcrescue.org. If you have an approved adoption application with Border Collie Rescue of Northern California let us know and we will request it be forwarded to us for consideration.

MICKEY is being fostered in Orangeville in Sacramento County, CA.
